29 weeks and glucose test

Today marks 29 weeks.....11 weeks to go! I went to the doctor for the all dreaded glucose test to determine whether or not I had developed gestational diabetes. You have to fast, so I just scheduled my appointment for the morning and didn't eat anything beforehand. They gave me this glucose drink that tasted somewhat like a flat sprite with artificial sweetener added. It was pretty gross. Then they wait a hour and draw your blood to test the sugar levels. It made me nauseous drinking it, then the blood test without eating was no fun either. They test your iron levels at this time too, and for me they tested my thyroid since I have a thyroid condition. Needless to say, it was not a fun morning, but I did get awesome news the next day that I had passed the glucose test and my iron levels were good too. Very thankful that I passed, and also that I don't have to partake in the second test they give you over three hours!

After a fiasco last weekend with my dresser/combo unit, we do have the correct one now! We had gotten the crib at Baby Depot, but they didn't have any other pieces in the collection besides the crib. Babies R Us carries the same collection, so I figured I wouldn't have a problem ordering the combo unit there. I had to wait a little while for them to get it in the warehouse before ordering, but I finally got word that it was in last week. We opened it up and realized it was the total wrong color, and was about 4 shades darker than the crib we had. I was baffled at first. Both the crib and the dresser say they are in the cherry finish. After a little more research, we discovered that Babies R Us carries Rustic Cherry and Baby Depot carries Natural Cherry. Greeeeeat, seriously? Two different cherry finishes? Luckily they let us return it at Babies R Us last Sunday, and we went to Baby Depot to see if they had gotten it yet. They hadn't, but said we could special order. A special order could take anywhere from 4 to 12 weeks. Me being me and wanting to get the nursery finished was a little bummed, but I couldn't find anywhere else to get it and I really wanted it. So we ordered last Sunday, and imagine my surprise when I get a call on Thursday afternoon saying that it was already in! It took less than a week, and here I was imagining it not coming in until right before or after he was born. I did have a 20% off coupon that miraculously came in the mail the week before as well. I am a happy camper once again! We picked it up Saturday, and it looks awesome. I was a little worried since the first fiasco, but it is perfect. My mom came down on Friday night to go to a jewelry party with me, and she brought a little side table for us to go beside the glider. It matches and is just want I wanted. Just a few things left to decorate in there and get the curtains up! All major furniture is purchased! My first shower is in two weeks, and I can't wait! Cherette has been working hard, and I know she has cute little projects going on. It is going to be so much fun!

Exciting things going on with the baby this week:
  • He weighs between 2.5 and 3 pounds, and around 15 inches long.
  • The baby's brain can now control breathing and body functions.
  • The baby can cough and has perfected the sucking ability.
  • Skin is starting to appear less wrinkled, and he is starting to fill out.
  • Based on brain waves, it is shown that babies can dream at this point! Wonder what he could be dreaming about!
  • Babies born at this point have a 9/10 chance for survival. Hoping he stays in there though to further develop and get bigger!

28 weeks tomorrow!

27 weeks, 4 days

Belly comparison:

15 weeks, 3 days

18 week, 2 days

22 weeks, 2 days

27 weeks, 4 days

Definitely looking REALLY pregnant now! Sometimes I just look at my stomach and can't believe it is really my stomach! No stretch marks yet, and I'm crossing my fingers. I keep applying my cocoa butter cream in hopes of keeping them away. Cherette sent out the invitations for my Cincinnati family shower on March 6th, and they are absolutely adorable. I'm so excited! It will be so much fun to get stuff for our little man. I've been doing my best to not buy clothes and things yet, so I can see what I get first. It's been much harder since we are sure it is a boy. The dresser/combo unit finally came in to the Cleveland warehouse, and we were able to order it last week. I got a call just a few days after that that it was here and I could pick it up. I can't wait to see it in the room, since that is the last major piece of furniture for the nursery. Mom is working on the curtains, and I'm gonna make a memory board and a few other small decorations too. The weather has been snowy here, and not the best weather for picking up a dresser that is fully assembled and needs to be in the back of a truck. I think we are going to try and get it tomorrow though.

I couldn't resist putting on the bedding to see how it looked. We also got a great quilt rack from Patrick's parents for the room. They put a coat of varnish on it, and I really don't think it could match any more perfectly. It looks like it belongs with the set. Very cute to display the cute quilt and blankets since you aren't supposed to have them in the bed with the baby because of suffocation. Anyways, everything still needs to be washed before the little man arrives. Like I said, I just had to get a sneak peak of how it was going to look. And if you are wondering, no we have not decided on a name yet. I get asked that all the time, but it's a hard thing to decide on. I'm very indecisive, and it's something that he will have the rest of his life!

The Snoogle and hospital tour...

Snoogle!

As I am now 26.5 weeks, sleeping continues to get more uncomfortable. After a few nights of waking up several times due to back pain, I broke down and bought a full body preggo pillow. I got the Snoogle, and it has been a God send! I love it! It looks like a giant "C" and I like to put part of it between my knees and use the long side to support my back. You can flip it around and use the long part to hug, so to speak. I may try that out as well. I've used it for two nights, and I must say that I have slept much better. Although I have had two really bad dreams each night as well. Hopefully tonight brings sweet dreams! Anyways, I would definitely recommend the Snoogle. Yes, they aren't the cheapest, but use a Babies R Us 20% off coupon and it's not too bad. Definitely worth it in my opinion. Also, you can use it after the baby is born sorta like a Boppy or just to help prop you up too when nursing.

We had our hospital tour last night, and it definitely brought back memories to when we were there almost 6 months ago when Cherette had Kara. I had already seen the rooms, but I was still impressed a second time. They have awesome birthing rooms at Good Sam. They redid them recently, and they are so roomy. I also saw the waiting room where my mother in law and Cherette's mom spent hours waiting for little Kara to arrive. After the baby is born, you go into the postpartum rooms. It's too bad they aren't as roomy as the birthing rooms, but I understand why they aren't! They aren't so bad though. Maybe I'll be lucky and get a corner room, which is a little larger. We saw a couple little ones in the nursery, and it made me excited for our little boy to get here. Just about 3 more months! I'm so excited for my showers. Tiffany and Cherette both have the invitations, and they both did a great job! I know they will throw awesome showers. I'm lucky to have such great friends and family! My little boy continues to move around a lot in his little home. He sure likes to let me know that he is in there. It really is neat. I think I'll miss it when I'm not pregnant anymore.

I've been doing pretty well still going to the gym. I try to go 3 times a week, and I have been. I usually just ride the recumbent bike for a little while and walk around the track or on the treadmill. I was walking in today and a guy told me that I looked like I was smuggling in a basketball. Another guy asked how far along I was. Glad people know that I'm pregnant and don't just think I have a huge potbelly! I guess when you are fairly small everywhere else, it should be pretty apparent.
